私たちの世界はさまざまな元素によって構成されています。それらの元素には周期性があり、現在まで知られている118種の元素のすべてが周期表にまとめられています。2016年には、113番目の元素ニホニウムを含む118番までの4元素名が確定され、周期表の第7周期までが完成しました。2019年は、メンデレーエフが元素の周期律を発見してから150周年に当たることから、UNESCOによって国際周期表年 (International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements: IYPT) と宣言されました。私たちは、この記念すべきIYPT2019の事業として様々なイベントを開催し、皆さまとともに周期表の美しさを味わい、IYPT2019をお祝いしたいと思います。

The world we live in is composed of a variety of chemical elements, which exhibit certain periodicities, and all the 118 chemical elements we have known so far have been tabulated as a form of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. In 2016, the names were finally given to the last four chemical elements including Nihonium whose atomic number is 113, resulting in the completion of the seventh period of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. Because the year of 2019 is the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Periodic System by Dmitri Mendeleev, 2019 has been proclaimed the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019) by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO. On the occasion of IYPT2019, we will hold a variety of events, and would like to appreciate the beauty of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and celebrate IYPT2019 together with you.
